Private Tour Description
This tour will be a day entirely dedicated to visiting Capri, an island rich in natural, panoramic, historic beauties, and social activities.
Pick up from your hotel in Sorrento, then we continue towards the port of Sorrento and board the fast boat to Capri. During the navigation you will admire the Sorrento Coast up to the junction of the waters of the Gulf of Naples with those of the Gulf of Salerno (Punta Campanella). After around 20 minutes by boat, we will arrive at Marina Grande, the small port of the island that has left intact its charm despite the passage of time. Afterwards we reach Anacapri by minibus or taxi. "Above Capri", as the Greeks nicknamed it.
This beautiful village, which today is a town in itself, is an integral part of the island. Inhabited since Roman times, as showed by the many ruins, Anacapri had its heyday between the 19th and 20th centuries, when it became a coveted "retreat" for artists from all over Europe who came here to spend their holidays and find inspiration.
First you will visit the fabulous villa of Dr. Axel Munthe, a Swedish doctor whose best-selling book "Story of San Michele" tells of his time on Capri. His villa was built with the remains of Roman ruins and there is a beautiful shady garden with terrace affording splendid views of the island. This is an optional stop and the entrance fee should be paid direct to the guide. Free time will be allowed in Anacapri for lunch and shopping. You will be spoilt for choice given the wide variety of typical products and high-fashion boutiques.
The tour will continue to the famous "Piazzetta" of Capri, meeting place of VIPs and vantage point of great beauty. This main square has a pretty white church and several open-air cafes where you can sit and watch the world drift by. Leading off the square are medieval looking alleyways and arcades full of shops selling the handcrafts of the island such as clothing, coral and gold jewellery made, shoes and ceramics, etc.
Then you can have additional free time for shopping or to go for a short walk to the Gardens of Augustus, which are very relaxing, and also enjoy a breathtaking view.
We will return to the port of Marina Grande and, time and weather permitting, you will enjoy the beauty of the coast with a boat ride or visit the Blue Grotto which is known throughout the world for its size and for its intense blue and silvery white water reflecting immerse objects.
Finally, in the afternoon we will return to the port of Sorrento and there’ll be a subsequent transfer by minibus to the hotel.
